Low back ache is one of the most common reasons for hospital visits and is a significant cause for loss of work hours.
Most common causes of low back pain are a herniated inter-vertebral disc, muscle spasm, slip of one vertebra over the other [spondylolysthisis] to name a few. Other non spine related causes for back pain are to be ruled out prior to planning treatment.
Majority of back /spine disorders can be managed with medication and physiotherapy.
Surgery is advocated to only those patients who have refractory back pain which isn’t relieved with medication and physiotherapy.
